Will Russia agree to a cease-fire?

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said on February 5 that security guarantees for Ukraine should be given before a ceasefire in the war with Russian Federation. He said this in Kiev at a joint press conference with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

The video was published on Zelensky's Facebook.

"We were ready for a ceasefire at first. It is Russia that should agree to a ceasefire," the president said when asked by the media. - All the conditions are perfectly clear, they are in the 20-point plan."

Zelensky believes that security guarantees "should go from the United States to all other documents."

"Of course, everything can be signed at the same time. But if we were looking for how Ukraine, society to be more confident in its future, to be more confident in America's support, to be more confident that not only Europe, but first of all there will be America's backstop, and to be more confident that Russia's aggression in the future is minimized, then if we talk about this, in my opinion, this is how we should create a de-escalation atmosphere and strengthen Ukraine," the president stressed.

That is why, in Zelensky's opinion, security guarantees should be signed first.

"This is my position, and I speak about it quite frankly. It will be as it will be, because these are security guarantees for America and Europe. And so it depends on the desire of the United States of America," the Ukrainian president pointed out.
