Mozyr Refinery Remained Unprofitable Despite Fuel Sales To Russia

The second unprofitable district of Gomel region is Zhlobinsky.

Mozyr district remains unprofitable for 23 months in a row. This is evidenced by the December compilation of the Gomel Regional Statistical Committee, which was analyzed by the publication "Flagstaff".

The main economic indicators of the district are almost entirely formed by the Mozyr oil refinery.

The statistics shows that since the beginning of the year the district's losses have been growing and reached a maximum in May: Mozyr district was "in the minus" by 757.8 million rubles. Then the losses gradually began to decrease. By September they decreased to 649.9 million rubles, in October - to 518.4 million rubles, and by November - to 323.8 million rubles.

The general director of the plant Vitaly Pavlov boasts of the completion of the modernization of the enterprise. The commissioning of a complex for hydrocracking of heavy oil residues has brought the depth of oil refining up to 90%.

Of course, independent analysts say the main factor is the fuel shortage in Russia in the fall of 2025, which emerged after a series of Ukrainian attacks on Russia's oil refining complex. In September, gasoline supplies from Belarus to Russia quadrupled, and in October, trading in Belarusian fuel on the Russian stock exchange increased 47 times.

Besides Mozyr district, there is another one that is dragging Gomel region down in economic terms - Zhlobin district. Its losses for the first 11 months of 2025 amounted to 136.7 million rubles. Zhlobin is home to the Belarusian Metallurgical Plant, which has fallen under international sanctions.

The combined loss of the two districts exceeds 460 million rubles and actually "eats up" the financial success of most of the other districts of Gomel region.
