Democrat Beats Republican In Texas Election
- 1.02.2026, 21:42
Texas is a traditionally Republican state.
In the by-election in the ninth Senate District of Texas in the United States, Republican Lee Wambsgans lost to Democrat Taylor Rehmet. This is reported by ABC News.
It is noted that after almost all votes were counted, Rehmet had a +14 percentage point advantage.
Democrats said Rehmet's victory is further proof that voters during the Trump administration's second term are motivated to remove Republicans from power.
Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin called it "a warning signal to Republicans across the country."
The election was held because incumbent Republican Rep. Kelly Hancock in Texas' ninth congressional district resigned to take a position in state government.
Hancock has easily won the election every time he has run for the position, and Republicans have held the seat for decades. Most notably, Trump won here by +17 percentage points in 2024.
