The ceremony was held in Oslo.

The head of the Human Rights Center "Viasna", winner of the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize Ales Bialiatski, received a diploma and a laureate's badge at the Norwegian Nobel Institute three years after he was awarded the prize. He was welcomed at the ceremony by Nobel Committee Chairman Jorgen Vatne Friednes, writes Deutsche Welle.

Ales Bialiatski was accompanied by his wife Natalia Pinchuk, who represented him at the award ceremony in 2022. Bialiatski noted in his acceptance speech that work to free political prisoners continues, and focused on the fact that human rights defenders, journalists and social activists are still imprisoned. He called for continued pressure on the Belarusian authorities to release all political prisoners.

Ales Bialiatski was detained on July 14, 2021 and sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was found guilty of smuggling by an organized group and financing group actions that grossly violate public order. On December 13, he was released together with 122 other political prisoners and deported from Belarus.

Ales Bialiatski received the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize together with the Russian society Memorial and the Ukrainian organization Center for Civil Liberties.
