Kiev Calls UN Security Council And Ukraine-NATO Council Meeting Over Oreshnik Strike

  • 9.01.2026, 11:19

The international community was called upon to take concrete steps.

Ukraine initiates an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council in connection with the Russian attack with a ballistic missile "Oreshnik" on Lviv region. Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga emphasized that the world must respond to another act of terror.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Sibiga's statement.

Convening the UN Security Council

Sibiga said that the use of ballistic missiles against civilian regions is a gross violation of international law. Ukraine has already started the process of convening the UN Security Council to hold Russia accountable for the escalation.

"Russia used the Oreshnik ballistic missile on Lviv region. We are convening a meeting of the UN Security Council and a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council. This terror cannot go unpunished," the minister said.

Geography of attacks and the Kremlin's excuses

This night, Lviv and Kiev came under attack. Earlier this week, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhya and Krivoy Rog were hit by massive shelling. Sibiga emphasized that Russia has finally chosen the path of brutality instead of diplomacy, neglecting all peace efforts.

At the same time, the Kremlin officially confirmed the launch of ballistics on Lviv. Russian propaganda is trying to justify another terrorist attack with a fake about an alleged "attack on the residence" of Putin. Minister Sibiga criticized this position, calling on partners to respond to the real killings of Ukrainians, not to the fictitious reasons of the aggressor.

The Foreign Minister called on the international community to take concrete steps:

Strengthening air defense: providing additional systems to intercept ballistic targets.

New sanctions: severe restrictions against the Russian military-industrial complex.

Diplomatic isolation: public condemnation of the use of experimental weapons against civilians.

Reminder, the enemy has carried out a combined attack on peaceful cities in Ukraine. The geography of Russian attacks covered Lviv, Kiev and a number of other regions, including Dnipro, Zaporizhzhya and Krivoy Rog.

The Russian Federation officially confirmed the night ballistic missile strike on Lviv on January 9. The Russian regime attempted to justify its latest act of terror with fake claims of an alleged "attack on the residence" of Putin.
