To create a "dream army".

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the US military budget for 2027 should be $1.5 trillion, significantly higher than the $901 billion approved by Congress for 2026.

Truth Social Trump wrote about it on Truth Social.

The U.S. president wrote that he made the decision on military spending for 2027 "after long and difficult negotiations with senators, congressmen, secretaries and other political representatives."

"For the good of our country, especially in these very turbulent and dangerous times, our military budget for 2027 should be $1.5 trillion, not $1 trillion. This will allow us to create the 'dream army' to which we have long been entitled," the White House chief wrote.

This statement by Trump comes after a separate post on Truth Social in which the US president criticized defense companies for producing weapons too slowly. In it, he promised to ban defense contractors from paying dividends or buying back stock until they speed up production.

Trump said the additional defense spending would be covered by revenues generated by the tariffs he imposed on nearly every country and many industrial sectors.

Any increase in the military budget would require congressional approval.
