Maduro has already been taken to the Brooklyn Detention Center.
Vice President Delcy Rodriguez is to take over as acting president of Venezuela.
The country's Supreme Court has ruled so, Reuters reports. The court explained its decision by saying that Rodriguez's appointment to the post was important "to ensure administrative continuity and the full protection of the country."
In addition, the New York Times (NYT) reported, citing a law enforcement official familiar with Nicolas Maduro's itinerary, a helicopter with Venezuela's deposed ruler on board landed in Brooklyn near the Detention Center where he will be held pending trial.
Also (NYT) reported that a police officer outside the Detention Center told those gathered outside the building over a loudspeaker that Maduro had already gone inside the facility.
The crowd began cheering, singing and waving Venezuelan flags.
