January 31, Lviv bid farewell to Belarusian volunteer Alexei Lazarev (call sign - Uzh), who died on January 19 while carrying out a combat mission, writes "Belsat".
The ceremony began at 11:00 am at the garrison church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, after which the procession moved to Rynok Square, where a citywide farewell was held.
Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovoy expressed his condolences and noted the fighting path of the Belarusian:
"Lviv says goodbye to the Belarusian who died defending Ukraine. Alexei Lazarev was born in Minsk, but consciously sided with Ukraine from the first days of full-scale war. He defended Kiev, fought in the south and east, served in the Kastus Kalinovsky regiment and in the 225th battalion."
Alexei Lazarev will be buried in the field of honorary burials #87 on Pasechnaya Street.
Alexei Lazarev volunteered immediately after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In the spring of 2022, he and his future wife Veronika Yanovich married in Kiev, after which they both joined Kalinovsky's regiment. Later, Alexei transferred to the 225th separate assault battalion of the AFU.
Before the war, Alexei worked as a software engineer and took an active part in the political life of Belarus. In 2019, he ran as a candidate in the parliamentary elections, becoming one of the youngest campaigners. Due to the threat of political persecution after the events of 2020, he was forced to leave his homeland.
Alexei was 27 years old.
