The Iranian military is in a panic.

On Saturday, January 31, Iran recorded two explosions in different parts of the country. As a result of the incidents, five people were killed and another dozen and a half were injured. Israel has officially denied involvement in the strikes, the Sky News television channel reported.

The first explosion occurred in the port of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran. According to local media, one person was killed and 14 others were injured.

The explosion occurred in an eight-story building, severely damaging floors one through three. Several cars and a store were also reported damaged. Footage from the scene, distributed by Fars news agency, shows debris and glass scattered on the ground.

The second incident occurred more than 1,000 kilometers away from the first site, in the city of Ahvaz. There, local officials said four people were killed.

Social media reported that the target of the explosion in Bandar Abbas was the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) naval forces. However, the semi-official Tasnim news agency called the claims "completely false" and said the military leader was not the target of the attack.

The cause of the blasts is still unknown and authorities are investigating. Israel has said it had no involvement in either incident.

The explosions came at a time of heightened tension in the region. The port of Bandar Abbas is located in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world's oil passes.

Social networks also talk about explosions in the city of Tabriz and in Tehran itself, but there is no confirmation of this information yet.

The situation is heating up amid the US military build-up. Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump said that a "big armada" is moving toward Iran and warned that if the country does not agree to the deal, "we'll see what happens."

In addition, nationwide protests continued in Iran for almost the entire month of January - caused by economic problems, they turned into an attempt to overthrow the regime. The demonstrations were brutally suppressed by the IRGC, with the death toll, according to some reports, totaling some 30,000.
