What is happening on the border with Lithuania?

The Ministry of Defense of Belarus reported that field exercises have begun at the Gozhi training range, which is located in Hrodna region, 6-10 kilometers from the border with Lithuania, writes "Telegraf".

The mechanized units of the 6th Independent Guards Mechanized Brigade of the Belarusian Army are taking part in them.

According to the ministry, BMP-2 and BTR-82A are taking part in the exercises. The military also conduct small arms firing, practice defensive actions, storming trenches and buildings, as well as suppressing drones.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) specified that all exercises are conducted "taking into account the experience of modern military conflicts."

Lithuania earlier announced plans to create its own range opposite the Gozhi range in Belarus - near the town of Kapčiamestis. It will be located 10 kilometers from the border with Belarus in the so-called Suvalki corridor. Vilnius plans to spend about €100 million for its construction.

This section of the territory of Lithuania and Poland is so named because of its strategic position, as the straight line from the border of Belarus to the Russian enclave in the EU (European Union) - Kaliningrad region - is about 100 kilometers. The EU countries believe that this area could become the epicenter of a clash in case of a Russian attack on the Baltic States.
