The US president celebrated the success of the mission to capture Maduro.

U.S. President Donald Trump called the operation against Venezuela brilliant, adding that it was preceded by months of planning.

He said this in comments The New York Times.

In a brief phone interview with the publication, Trump celebrated the success of the mission to take on Maduro.

"A lot of good planning, a lot of great, great military and great people," Trump said.

"It was actually a brilliant operation," he added.

When asked whether he sought congressional authorization for the operation and what will happen next with Venezuela, Trump said he would answer those questions during a news conference in Mar-a-Lago.

U.S. officials earlier said U.S. President Donald Trump had ordered strikes on targets deep inside Venezuela, including military installations.
