During the trial, some high-profile details came to light.

In London, the sentence was announced for Russian Matvey Rumyantsev, who was accused of assaulting a woman. The crime was reported to the police by the youngest son of US President Donald Trump Barron. According to the victim of the crime, that call to law enforcers saved her life.

According to The Independent, the court found Matvey Rumyantsev guilty of assaulting a woman with violence, as well as attempting to obstruct justice, as he had already sent a letter to the victim in prison, asking her to withdraw her statement.

The man was acquitted on charges of rape as well as intentional strangulation.

Rumyantsev's sentencing will be announced on March 27.

What was learned in court

The incident occurred on the night of Jan. 18, 2025. Barron Trump, who was 18 at the time, was talking on a video link with a woman, whose name was not disclosed, when he saw Matvey Rumyantsev "punch her several times with his fist," The Guardian wrote.

A few minutes later, Barron Trump called the police. According to the audio recording of the call, which was played in court, the son of the US president said that he received a call from a girl he met on social networks and she was "beaten up very badly". He then gave the victim's address. He also apologized to police that he was not prepared to answer further questions about his identity.

When law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, the victim could be heard on law enforcement body camera video saying: "I'm friends with Barron Trump, Donald Trump's son."

"He helped save my life. That call was a sign from God at that moment," The Guardian quoted the assault victim as saying in court.

Prosecutor Serena Gates said Matvey Rumyantsev, 22, felt jealous because of the woman's friendship with Trump, possibly because of his fame, the BBC's Russian service wrote.

In cross-examination, the defendant was asked if he was jealous of men the victim might have talked to.

"What really bothered me was that she was openly flirting with him [Trump]." - he stated.
