According to Satena Airlines, the Beechcraft 1900 plane took off from the town of Cucuta near the Venezuelan border and was heading to Ocaña. Communication with the craft was lost about 11 minutes after takeoff - at 11:54 a.m. local time.

There were 13 passengers and two crew members on board. The plane was on a contract flight for state carrier Satayepa.

The authorities said aviation and military units were involved in the search. The area of possible disappearance of the plane is mountainous and difficult to access, which makes the operation difficult.
