The United States kidnapped Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro to end the influence of Russia and China in the republic. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said this during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, broadcast by CBS News.

"We wanted to weaken the influence of Iran, Russia and China in this country. None of that would have been possible as long as Maduro remained in power," the secretary of state explained.

Rubio said the situation in Venezuela began to improve after the operation to capture Maduro.
