The occasion was Gerasimov's lie.
Russian General Staff chief Valery Gerasimov has become an object of ridicule on social networks after announcing the capture of the village of Kupyansk-Uzlovoy in Kharkiv region.
The problem is that Russian troops have not even approached this village, writes "Dialog.UA".
His statement instantly fell apart: even Z-vonenkoers are outraged by the lie.
Gerasimov announced the high-profile "success" during an inspection of the "West" troop grouping. A video of his statement was published by the Russian Defense Ministry. According to the general, the settlement has already been "taken" and there is allegedly a "clearing of neighborhoods" going on there.
Almost immediately after the statement, DeepState data showed the real picture: to Kupyansk-Uzlovoye from the nearest Russian positions is not less than 10 kilometers. Moreover, the settlement is not even in the "gray zone" - it is fully controlled by the AFU.
Even Russian propaganda Telegram channels were forced to admit the discrepancy between Gerasimov's words and reality.
Z-Voencors are outraged by the lies
"We'll probably go for a smoke after such a beautiful report. Silently," wrote Z-channel "Two Majors."
Author of Z-channel "Romanov Lite" Vladimir Romanov called Gerasimov's statement the result of "paint-by-numbers," referring to the practice of announcing promotions that do not correspond to reality.
The pro-Russian telegram channel Belorussian Silovik published a map on which it drew in black the border of the territory under AFU control and underlined in blue the settlements that, "to put it mildly, are not quite under our control."
It follows from the map that the Russian army has not approached Kupyansk-Uzlovoy. Why Kupyansk-Uzlovoy is so important This settlement is not just a village: there is a major railroad junction here, connecting the directions to Kharkiv, Valuiki, Svyatogorsk, Belgorod, Popasnaya and Kupyansk-Pivdenniy.
In 2022, Russia actively used it for troop movements. In the fall of that year, the AFU liberated Kupyansk-Uzlovoy during a counteroffensive in Kharkiv Oblast.
Since then, the Russian army has never been able to regain control of the area. In reality, according to analysts, the Russian advance in January amounted to about 160 km². This is the minimum pace in the last nine months.
