Reuters: Trump Is Scared Of Impeachment

Republicans have warned the administration of the president of the United States.

The US administration has abandoned the idea of invading Greenland because of the possible risk of impeaching President Donald Trump, Reuters reports.

Since early January, Trump and members of his team have increasingly discussed the possibility of using force against the island. Politicians from both parties have expressed concern that the president could initiate a military operation without the consent of Congress, similar to the Venezuelan scenario.

The lawmakers have communicated their concerns to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other White House officials. According to the agency, the Republicans warned the administration that an attempt to invade Greenland could lead to a declaration of impeachment against the president.

Trump has previously repeatedly emphasized that Greenland is key to U.S. national security, pointing out that Russia or China could otherwise gain control of the island.

At the same time, during talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on January 22, the two sides reached an agreement on a plan for Greenland, the details of which have not yet been disclosed.
