US Announces New Sanctions Against Iran's 'shadow Navy'

Washington is stepping up pressure on Tehran.

This was reported by the U.S. Treasury Department.

The U.S. Treasury Department said the sanctions will affect nine vessels in Iran's "shadow fleet" as well as the companies that own them.

All property and assets of the sanctioned entities and individuals located in the United States or in the possession or control of U.S. persons will be blocked.

The U.S. Treasury Department added that the restrictions are aimed at reducing the Iranian regime's revenues.

"This revenue, which rightfully belongs to the Iranian people, is instead being diverted to fund regional terrorist proxies, weapons programs, and security services, rather than the basic economic services the Iranian people have boldly demanded," the website said.

Last week, the US administration announced a package of sanctions against Iran that targeted individuals who led the brutal crackdown on anti-government protests in the country.
