They Want To Shake Off One More Tax From Belarusians

It used to be overlooked.
The charity association ZOOoshans confirmed rumors in Threads that the tax inspection has requested from veterinary clinics, at least in Minsk, a list of dog owners who sought veterinary care in 2025, reports "Belsat".
A screenshot of a letter from the first deputy inspectorate for Minsk Liubovia Mikhadiuk asks for a list with the owner's name, residential address, contact phone number, and breed of dog.
Whether other cities make such requests is unknown.
Threads users debate whether it's good or bad that such a tax is being collected. Arguments "for" - that the tax will benefit the dogs themselves, because the money will be invested in infrastructure and maintenance of homeless animals. Arguments "against" - that in fact it is not invested. And according to the law, it should not: the tax is collected without a specific purpose.
This is probably not a random initiative of one official. During the last week, the state and local media have started to publish reminders about the need to pay such a tax, about the obligation to register dogs and cats, about the prohibition to keep more than two dogs or cats per family in an apartment, as well as about possible fines for violation of the rules of keeping pets - up to 15 basic units (630 rubles in 2026).
