Thirty-seven people were injured and the train driver was killed.

In Spain there was the second fatal railroad accident in a few days. Near Barcelona, a commuter train derailed - due to heavy rains, a retaining wall collapsed on the track. The accident killed the driver and seriously injured four other passengers, Reuters reported.

The incident occurred on the evening of January 20 in Gelida, near Barcelona. According to Catalonia's regional fire department inspector Claudio Gallardo, a total of 37 people were injured, four of whom are in serious condition. All passengers have been evacuated from the train. Rail service across Catalonia was temporarily suspended.

It is noted that the section where the commuter train derailed has long been known for chronic underfunding of rail infrastructure and regular incidents.

The accident near Barcelona comes just two days after a major rail disaster in southern Spain - near Adamus in Cordoba province, where 42 people were killed when a high-speed train collided and derailed.

In addition, on the evening of January 20, there was another incident on the commuter line: the movement of trains between Blanes and Massanet Massanes, south of Girona, was suspended due to the derailment of a train wheelset, said the operator of the railway infrastructure.
