Russian Economy Enters Stagnation Phase

  • 2.01.2026, 5:00

And a recession may await her this year.

The Russian economy has actually stopped growing because of the war against Ukraine. This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.

According to the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, Russia's GDP grew by only 0.1% year-on-year in November 2025. The Center notes that this is the lowest figure since the beginning of 2023 and evidence of the economy entering the stagnation phase.

For the first time in the last nine months, industrial production fell by 0.7%. The Center draws attention to the fact that the decline occurred precisely in the sector that in 2023-2024 provided the so-called "military growth" of the Russian economy.

In addition, even analysts loyal to the Kremlin record a sharp increase in the risk of recession in 2026. They state that the economic model, which was based on budget stimulus, import substitution and credit expansion, has exhausted itself.

The CPD notes that this situation is a direct consequence of the war and senseless decisions of the Russian authorities. The Kremlin deliberately continues its aggression, the Russian economy is in a state of deep crisis, and further ignoring the reality will lead to the intensification of negative consequences.
