They had their cell phones checked.
Today, January 19, law enforcers came to the apartment of the parents of Novaya Gazeta Europe special correspondent Irina Khalip, where the journalist has not been registered for 20 years.
"They came with a prosecutor's authorization to examine their phones, studied them for a long time and finally found my number," the journalist told Charter97.org.
"You see, what a special operation, prosecutor's authorization instead of just finding out my number from the cellular operator. We are talking, mind you, about a Belarusian number. And carefully inquired whether I was going to come. Of course, my mother's answer was obvious.
Actually speaking, they said that they were just executors, and everything comes from the Novopolotsk prosecutor's office. Thus, they, actually, by going after my parents, aim to ruin my life.
Yes, it disgusts the hell out of me, offends me, disgusts me that they bother people of age. Just to remind you, my mom is 89 years old, and you know, at that age, all those searches, paroles, examining phones is not a very pleasant thing. However, I understand perfectly well that it's probably a proof that I do everything right and work well, which, in fact, I'm going to continue to do", - said Irina Khalip.
Now, November 27, Prosecutor's Office of Belarus initiated a criminal case on "extremist" article against special correspondent of "Novaya Gazeta Europe" Irina Khalip. Her parents' apartment was searched.
