The US president called the act "a magnificent gesture of mutual respect".

US President Donald Trump accepted the Nobel Prize, which was given to him by Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. This was reported by Reuters, citing a White House official.

The White House online X published a photo of Trump and Machado, with the US president holding a large framed medal.

"To President Donald J. Trump with gratitude for your exceptional leadership in promoting peace through strength," the accompanying text reads.

According to Reuters, Machado's attempt to influence Trump came after he refused to appoint her as Venezuela's leader following the overthrow of dictator Nicolas Maduro.

The publication also recalled that before meeting Machado, journalists asked Trump if he wanted the Venezuelan leader to give him the Nobel Prize.

"No, I didn't say that. She received the Nobel Peace Prize," the agency quoted the White House chief as replying.

Trump called Machado's act a "wonderful gesture of mutual respect."

"Maria gave me her Nobel Peace Prize for the work she has done. Such a wonderful gesture of mutual respect. Thank you Maria!" - he wrote on social media.

In the meantime, the publication recalled, the Nobel Committee emphasized that the prize cannot be transferred, divided or canceled.
