Russian Embassy Official In Cyprus Found Dead A Day After Baumgertner Disappearance

An employee of the Russian embassy in Nicosia was found dead in his office on January 8, the ANT1 TV channel reported. Police were informed several hours after the body was found, it said.

Representatives of the Russian embassy did not allow the team that arrived at the site, and the body was handed over to police officers in the courtyard of the diplomatic mission. The embassy told police officers that the death was a result of suicide, there is his suicide letter, but it will be sent to Moscow.

The channel did not name the embassy employee. Later, the diplomatic mission's Telegram channel reported the death of an employee surnamed Panov. It also said the embassy was cooperating with Cypriot authorities to return his body to his home country.

Cypriot police also reported earlier that a 56-year-old former Uralkali director Vladislav Baumgertner went missing on the island on January 7. According to Philenews, he was last seen on January 7 when he left his home in Limassol. Baumgertner's disappearance was reported by his employee.

The search is underway in the coastal area near the village of Pisouri, where his cell phone signal was last recorded. Police officers, search and rescue teams and volunteers are taking part.
