Macron provided confidential details of the French contribution to the security guarantees.

French President Emmanuel Macron told parliament about a plan to deploy 6,000 French military personnel in Ukraine after a peace agreement.

This was reported by Le Monde.

The publication said a closed-door meeting was held at the Elysee Palace on January 8, attended by ministers, the country's military leadership, heads of the parliament's chambers, faction and party leaders.

According to the participants, Macron presented confidential details of the French contribution to security guarantees for Ukraine and stressed that they were talking about forces that would not operate on the front line.

The chief of the general staff Fabien Mandon clarified that these would not be deterrence or stabilization forces, but "forces to support the Ukrainian army."

Macron himself noted that the foreign military will be stationed "far from the front" and will be engaged in escorting and training Ukrainian units.

The leader of the "Unconquered France" deputies, Mathilde Panot, said France could send up to 6,000 soldiers to Ukraine.

She questioned the reliability of U.S. security guarantees.

"There is no reason to trust Donald Trump," she said.

Some of the opposition, including left-wing Unconquered France, communists and right-wing Rassemblement Nationale, insist that possible troop deployments should only take place with a U.N. mandate.

At the same time, representatives of the right-wing noted that an international mandate may not be necessary if Kiev formally requests it.

French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu said there would be a separate debate on the issue in parliament within two to three weeks.
