US Demands EU To Stop Buying Gas From Russia

Washington believes that such an option would be favorable to Brussels as well.

European countries should refuse to buy Russian oil and gas if they want Washington to tighten sanctions against Moscow. This was reported by US Energy Secretary Chris Wright in a conversation with Financial Times.

He emphasized that revenues from energy exports could be used by Russia to finance a military operation. According to the minister, in case Europe stops buying Russian fuel, it will have a positive impact and push the US to more aggressive sanctions.

As an alternative, Wright suggested replacing Russian energy resources with American liquefied natural gas, gasoline and other products. According to him, this would allow the EU to fulfill the terms of the trade agreement with the United States, according to which European countries must buy American energy resources worth 750 billion dollars by the end of 2028.

The United States believes that such a scenario is beneficial to Europe from an economic point of view.
