Tens of billions of dollars in one year alone.
Tariffs of 50 percent by U.S. President Donald Trump could cut India's gross domestic product by at least half a percent this year.
This was said by the country's chief economic adviser Anantha Nageswaran, according to Bloomberg.
"I hope the additional punitive tariff is a short-lived phenomenon," he said in an interview with Bloomberg TV. "Depending on how long it lasts even in this fiscal year, its impact on GDP could be between 0.5% and 0.6%."
The size of India's economy in 2024 is estimated at about $3.9 trillion in nominal GDP. Thus, a loss of 0.5% growth would result in a direct loss of $20 billion in one year alone.
