The US president emphasized that "this is the best place to be."
U.S. President Donald Trump announced Friday that his country will host next year's G20 summit (G20) at Trump National Doral golf course in Miami.
He said this while speaking to reporters, Politico.
Trump said Friday, Sept. 5, that the U.S. "will be honored to host the G20 summit here in America for the first time in nearly 20 years."
The G20 summit next year will be held at Trump's compound in Miami.
"This is the best place," the American leader told reporters.
Trump emphasized that he will not personally benefit from it.
He also signaled that he might skip this year's summit, which will be held in South Africa in November.
"I'll probably send somebody else because I've had a lot of problems with South Africa. They have very bad policies," he said.
South Africa is hosting a summit of G20 leaders in November at which it is expected to hand over the presidency to the United States. But U.S. senior officials are avoiding attending this year. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent skipped a meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors in Cape Town in February. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also skipped a meeting of foreign ministers in Johannesburg.
