Trump's covert operation has come to light.
The U.S. special forces unit SEALs (SEAL) organized a secret operation on the territory of North Korea in 2019. SEAL personnel planned to install a "wiretap" to intercept the conversations of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. However, the operation failed, writes The New York Times citing sources.
The main objective of the operation was to establish surveillance of Kim Jong Un during his talks with US President Donald Trump on the nuclear issue. The newspaper's sources note that the secret mission was approved by Trump himself.
According to the newspaper, the special forces acted "blindly", as video surveillance from drones on the territory of the DPRK was impossible to establish. While landing on the North Korean coast, the special forces encountered a small boat. In the darkness, they opened fire, fearing they had been exposed. As it later turned out, there were two or three civilian North Koreans on board who were shellfish harvesters. They died on the spot.
