Ukraine Promises New Strikes Deep Into Russian Territory

The AFU opens a new stage of hostilities.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has announced preparations for new strikes deep into Russian territory, marking a new stage in the war. The actions are seen as a response to ongoing Russian bombardment of Ukrainian National Security Journal (translated by Charter97.org).

Zelensky said the new approach was made possible by the development of domestic production of drones and long-range weapons. Using its own weapons allows Kiev to strike Russian territory without prior coordination with Washington and reduces the risk of NATO's direct involvement in the conflict.

"We will continue active operations exactly as necessary to defend Ukraine. The forces and resources are ready. New strikes deep into Russian territory are also planned," the president wrote on social media, noting that the strikes would be in response to recent Russian drone attacks that damaged residential and administrative buildings and left 60,000 people without electricity.

Zelensky earlier said that Ukrainian forces could now hit targets deep in Russia using their own long-range systems, without coordination with the United States. He said there were previously "different signals" regarding retaliatory strikes after attacks on the Ukrainian power grid, but no such coordination is now required.

Experts say the use of domestic weapons reduces the risk of the US and Europe escalating the conflict. Strikes on Russian supply lines, energy facilities or military bases carried out by Ukraine cannot be directly linked to NATO. At the same time, the use of Western weapons would increase the likelihood of Russian retaliation and the threat of strikes on alliance territories.

Ukraine is opening a new stage of combat operations, relying on its own technology and seeking to strengthen the defense of its territory while minimizing external risk.
