These Are The Words Trump's Poland Has Been Waiting For Eagerly
- 4.09.2025, 20:21
The U.S. is sending Russia a signal.
These words of Donald Trump all of Poland has been waiting with anticipation since January 20, that is, since the day of his inauguration. I remember meetings with important Polish government and diplomatic officials who recognized that for months Trump had kept European partners in uncertainty: whether he would decide to maintain, withdraw or reduce the presence of his troops in Europe.
Why is the presence of U.S. troops in Poland so important?"
For Poland, this presence is absolutely key. The deployment of 10,000 US Army soldiers is - besides investing in its own defense - the best insurance. Therefore, Donald Trump's words that he does not intend to withdraw US troops from Poland, and may even increase them in the future, are important, and from a security point of view are key.
A review of the US presence in Europe is currently underway, with the results of the audit to be known by the end of September. According to subsequent reports from Polish President Karol Nawrocki, Trump has agreed to some form of expanded U.S. presence to be negotiated between Pentagon chief Pete Hegsett and the head of Poland's National Security Bureau Slawomir Cienkiewicz. Other details are not yet known.
It is impossible to estimate the scope of this project and the forces involved. But as Navrotsky noted in a conversation with journalists, before the visit the maximum goal seemed to be the preservation of the U.S. military presence. Now there may be talk of even expanding it. From the point of view of Polish security, this is definitely good news.
Should we trust Trump's statements? That is another question altogether. However, his words themselves carry a certain weight. It is a clear signal to the authorities of the country that poses the greatest threat today, i.e. Russia, that America will not abandon Poland. Even if Trump decided to reduce his presence in the region - which would generally be bad news for Polish security - his statements make Poland, along with the increasingly strong army that the Law and Justice government developed and the October 15 Coalition is developing today, much safer.
Poland has reason to rejoice - right-wing politicians and members of the current coalition unanimously acknowledged this on Wednesday. Prime Minister Donald Tusk also expressed his position on Platform X.
The deputy prime minister and foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski, who was told by his American counterpart Marco Rubio on Tuesday that the United States has no second ally like Poland, was also a success.
Of course, Trump's statement also goes in the favor of President Karol Nawrocki, whom the American president hosted in the Oval Office.
Well, Polish politicians, who are in conflict on a daily basis, will have to accept that these were good days for Polish security. But the greatest satisfaction may be felt by the president. It is hard to imagine a better debut on the international stage than what happened to Karol Nowrocki in the White House less than a month after his inauguration.
