Anomalies Appeared On The Automobile Market In Belarus

  • 4.09.2025, 10:25

The experts explained what's going on.

In July this year, sales of passenger cars on the dealer market in Belarus grew by 15.4% year-on-year and reports the Belarusian Automobile Association (BAA).

In general, in January-August, the market showed growth of 16.9% compared to the same period of 2024.

Experts note that if this trend continues, the annual results may be close to the level of last year, despite the expected slowdown in growth and a possible decline in performance in some months.

In August, sales were noticeably affected by the new recycling fee rates, which became effective in February this year. This affected the growth of the share of Belarusian-made cars up to 54.4%. Sales of Chinese cars, which are imported or assembled in Russia, on the contrary, fell almost five times - to 1% of the market. But the share of cars imported directly from outside the EAEU (mainly Chinese brands) increased - from 15.6% to 23%.

"The uncharacteristic reaction of the market to the change in recycling fee rates is partly due to the leveling effect of strengthening of the Belarusian ruble against the Chinese yuan by almost 17% since the beginning of the year. At the same time, the Belarusian ruble has weakened by 10% against the Russian ruble over the same period, which significantly affected the cost of imported cars," reads the report.

The share of cars equipped with hybrid powertrain, as well as internal combustion engines in sales of car dealers is decreasing.

Despite the continued excess of supply over demand, prices of passenger cars remain stable. According to the National Statistics Committee, they rose by 1.35% in January-July this year.
