Trump On Zelensky And Putin Meeting: Something Has To Happen

  • 4.09.2025, 9:22

The US President assessed the willingness of the parties to negotiate.

US President Donald Trump says he remains committed to pursuing a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine despite growing uncertainty over the issue. That said, the countries' leaders are "not yet ready" for the summit.

This is reported by CBS News.

Trump described his stance on the talks as "realistic and optimistic" in the interview and added that he is closely watching how the sides are successfully navigating the difficulties on the road to negotiations.

"I've been watching it, I've seen it, and I've talked to President Putin and President Zelensky about it. Something has to happen, but they're not ready yet. But something has to happen. We're going to do it," the American leader said.

The White House chief also expressed dissatisfaction regarding Russia's recent massive attacks on Ukraine and their consequences - in particular, the deaths of Ukrainian civilians.

"I think we're going to work it out," he said.

Trump said he thought Russia's war against Ukraine "would be one of the easiest among the ones he stopped."

"But it seems to have been a little more difficult than some of the others," he concluded.
