WP: Putin Insulted Melania Trump

Russia will not stop its attack on Ukraine voluntarily.
On August 15, U.S. First Lady Melania Trump wrote a poignant letter to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, urging him to make peace for the sake of children affected by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The Russian leader responded to the letter by bombing Kiev, which killed 23 people, including four children.
This response from Putin demonstrates that Russia will not stop its attack on Ukraine voluntarily - it must be coerced, writes The Washington Post.
"This strike was an insult to our first lady. It was also an insult to President Donald Trump, who personally delivered his wife's letter to Putin at their summit in Alaska," the article said.
WP writes that Putin has been deliberately targeting Ukrainian children since the war began. According to the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office, more than 3,560 schools have been hit by Russian missiles, drones, artillery and even cluster munitions, including 371 schools destroyed. As a result of these attacks, 652 children have been killed and 2,142 injured, with another 2,193 missing. UNICEF estimates that, on average, about 16 Ukrainian children are killed or injured every week. Moreover, many Ukrainian children are forced to study underground to protect themselves from Russian drones and missiles attacking their schools. Classes are regularly interrupted by air raid sirens.
It is noted that the strike on Kiev on the night of August 28 was intended to send a message to Trump and the European leaders gathered at the White House that Putin doubts their resolve. This is confirmed by the fact that, in addition to the Ukrainian targets, Russia also struck European Union diplomatic missions in Kiev and the U.S. electronics manufacturer Flex Ltd. by hitting its factory far from the front lines with two Kalibr cruise missiles.
"Putin responded to Trump's diplomacy and his wife's touching letter with a slap in the face - a barbaric attack that clearly shows he doesn't care about restoring the melodious laughter of Ukrainian children. This should be the last straw," the article said.
The authors of the material also emphasized that Trump has given Putin every chance to prove that he is interested in peace. And, since the Russian president has not yet confirmed his words about his readiness to make peace with concrete actions, it is necessary to force him to do so.
