Ukrainian Political Analyst: Lukashenko Is Trying To Survive

  • 28.09.2025, 9:38

The dictator has turned into Putin's geopolitical aide-de-camp.

Lukashenko is broadcasting Putin's thoughts and also wants to improve his position, which is why he said that Belarus, Russia and Ukraine should hold talks on ending the conflict in Ukraine, but he first needs to talk to Vladimir Zelensky. This opinion was expressed to "Belsat" by Ukrainian political scientist Evgeny Magda.

Evgeny Magda noted that Alexander Lukashenko is "Putin's geopolitical adjutant."

"What Putin has in his head, Lukashenko has on his tongue. And he thus raises his own importance. He can't concentrate only on what Trump says about him, for example. He needs to show his importance in Europe as well, especially against the background of contradictions between Trump and politicians in Europe," Magda says.

Lukashenko also said that he has a "good offer" for Vladimir Zelensky, but he will not reveal it - let Putin tell him. Magda doubts that Lukashenko really knows anything.

"He will now wait for something to come out and say, 'I told you about this back on September 26!'" notes Magda. - "I believe the West is questioning him about how best to talk to Putin, because he's really communicating with him intensely.

But Lukashenko is not involved in the Kremlin's decision-making process, the expert believes.

"I'll give an example. February 2022. Lukashenko gives an interview to Russian propagandist Solovyov at the beginning of the month, and he says that Ukraine will be [invaded] in three days. So he knew there would be an invasion, but the fact that he didn't know the date of the invasion - I have no doubt. Otherwise he wouldn't have called Zelensky and said: "Volodya, I didn't know," says Eugene Magda.

He believes that Lukashenko is fighting for political survival with his statements. In Ukraine, however, his words do not inspire any confidence."If you go out on the street in Kiev and ask people to react to Lukashenko's statement and say that we have diplomatic relations with Belarus, most people will be genuinely surprised. That is, the image of Belarus and Belarusians is bad because of Lukashenko's actions. It's not a secret," noted Magda.
