The process is already in full swing.
The priority of the Ukrainian Defense Forces is to protect civilians, as well as critical infrastructure facilities from Russian attacks. As UNIAN reports, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Alexandr Syrsky, said this at a meeting with journalists.
He added that Ukraine is now in the process of creating a new kind of troops in our Air Force - unmanned air defense systems.
"I mean interceptor drones of domestic and foreign production, which destroy "Shaheds" with high efficiency - 70% and more.... That is why units equipped with these interceptor drones and a command that will deal with these very drones are being created and increased. We are already using them, increasing the number of (radar) stations, increasing the number of personnel, training personnel. This process is in full swing, if I may say so," Syrsky said.
He also added that Ukraine is developing other areas of the fight against Russian air attacks. In particular, the number of attack helicopters is being increased. According to Glavkom, depending on the weather, the helicopters shoot down 40% of Russian drones in their areas. These helicopters are equipped with special systems that allow them to see the enemy - day, night, in different weather conditions, in thermal and infrared modes.
"Another direction is light-engine aviation with machine guns. It also shows its effectiveness in the fight against the Shaheds. We are studying the acquisition of specialized light-engine aircraft for this purpose," Syrsky added.
Glavcom noted that Ukraine is also increasing the means of electronic warfare. In particular, REB means are now planned to provide quadruple overlap of objects.
"We have automated control systems. Interception boundaries are being created. In particular, drones begin to be intercepted already at the first boundary, as soon as they cross the line of contact," Syrsky noted.
