Rheinmetall To Build A Shell Factory In Latvia

German defense concern Rheinmetall will build an artillery shell production plant in Latvia. The start of construction is scheduled for spring 2026.
The company's website reports that.
"Rheinmetall continues to expand its ammunition production capacity and now plans to build a modern plant in Latvia to produce artillery ammunition of 155 mm caliber," the Rheinmetall press service said.
A memorandum of understanding with Rheinmetall representatives has already been signed by Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina. The plant will be operated by 51% by Rheinmetall and 49% by the Latvian State Defense Corporation.
According to the project, the start of construction is scheduled for spring 2026, and a year later ammunition production should begin. The produced shells will be supplied to the Latvian Armed Forces and partner countries.
