Oligarch Plahotniuc was detained in Greece as he was about to fly to Dubai.
Former "owner of Moldova", oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc was extradited from Greece to Moldova.
This is reported by Newsmaker.
On the morning of September 25, Plahotniuc was brought to Chisinau under escort on a direct flight from Athens. In the released video (last 4 minutes), the oligarch can be seen leaving the plane under escort after the regular passengers on the flight had left.
The Justice Ministry earlier said he would be held in prison No. 13 in Chisinau.
It was first reported that Plahotniuc's extradition was scheduled for September 25. On September 17, the Greek Justice Ministry suspended the fugitive oligarch's extradition to Moldova.
Subsequently, Greece reversed this decision and resumed the extradition procedure.
Plahotniuc was detained in Greece on July 22, when he was about to fly to Dubai.
In Moldova, arrest warrants have been issued against Plahotniuc in three cases, the most high-profile of which is about the "theft of a billion" in 2014 from Moldovan banks.
According to prosecutors, Plahotniuc received more than $40 million through companies controlled by Ilan Shor. The case went to court in 2023. In February 2025, he was declared wanted through Interpol.
Before losing power and fleeing the country in 2019, Plahotniuc had a great influence on the life of the country, which earned him the nickname "the ruler of Moldova."
