Poland Opened Its Border With Belarus At Night

  • 25.09.2025, 8:35

The first to be processed was an unlucky bus that didn't make it through just before closing time.

In the night of September 25, Poland resumed traffic across the border with Belarus, which remained closed for almost two weeks. In particular, the Brest-Terespol passenger border crossing became operational. Belarusian customs began to accept transport even before the appointed time - the first to be processed was a bus, which did not have time to get to Poland just before the border closure, writes "Zerkalo" with reference to "First Information."

Later by 23 hours, five minibuses and about two dozen buses with Polish and Belarusian license plates were lined up at the checkpoint "Brest". By this time, 3342 cars and 45 tourist buses were registered in the electronic queue.

At 23.15, Belarusian customs officers began to clear the transport. The first passenger bus with Polish license plates turned out to be one of the last ones, which did not have time to cross the border before the Polish barrier closed on the night of September 12. It follows the route Gomel - Mogilev - Brest - Warsaw - Poznan.

Even the day before the bus was going to the Lithuanian border, but on the way the carrier received a message that Poland may still open the border on the night of September 25. They immediately changed the direction: the carrier redirected the driver and passengers to the Belarusian-Polish section. The group had been waiting to cross the border since the evening of September 23.

About ten minutes before the scheduled time of the border opening, Polish border guards dismantled the fences installed there. At midnight on September 25, local time (1.00 a.m. Belarusian time), the first transport was launched on the Polish side - the border traffic was resumed.

We recall that September 23, Minister of Interior and Administration of Poland Marcin Kerwiński signed an order to resume traffic across the border with Belarus. The decision came into force at midnight on September 25. Prior to that, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that in case of aggravation of the situation on the border with Belarus, the government would "without hesitation" close the border crossings again.

Traffic was restored in both directions - both to enter Poland and exit to Belarus. The road crossing "Terespol - Brest" for cars and "Kukuryki - Kozlovichi" for trucks were opened.

In addition, the work of railroad freight crossings: "Kuznica Bialystokskaya - Grodno", "Semianówka - Svisloch" and "Terespol - Brest" was resumed.

The border was closed on September 12 due to the "growing number of provocations from Russia and Belarus" and the joint military exercise "West-2025".
