Lithuanian President: Europe Must Give Up Oil And Gas From Russia Faster

Gitanas Nauseda emphasized that procrastination only strengthens the aggressor's war machine.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said that as long as the EU buys energy resources from Russia, it is, at least financially, more on the side of the aggressor than Ukraine.

Nauseda told reporters in New York, he was quoted by Delfi.

The Lithuanian president noted that the EU buys about 13 percent of its natural gas from Russia, and the amount it pays for that oil and gas "exceeds all the support it gives to Ukraine."

"This means that Europe is not even neutral and, in fact, financially, is more on Russia's side than Ukraine's. Of course we are ready to support Ukraine and apply sanctions against Russia, but this inconsistency and inertia in buying energy from Russia should make everyone desperate," he said." he said.

According to Nauseda, Lithuania has shown the entire EU how to effectively refuse Russian oil and gas, and if other member states do not do so, they will continue to feed the aggressor's war machine.

"We have taken steps that most EU countries are now taking, but they need to do it faster, otherwise we will be feeding the Russian war machine with our own money," he summarized.
