"Without China, Putin Is Nothing."

Zelensky urged Beijing to act in favor of peace.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has criticized the United Nations and its Security Council for inaction. Against this background, the Ukrainian leader directly appealed to China, present at the Security Council, to stop supporting Russia and providing it with the means to wage war, OBOZ.UA reported.

The Ukrainian leader said this during the UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine. The Ukrainian president also added that at this meeting in particular, and at the UN in general, "there are quite strong states" that together with Ukraine are striving to achieve peace.

"The world's attention to the UN is weakening. The organization has less and less influence and too often it lacks real decisions on major issues," the Ukrainian leader said.

Zelensky noted the absurdity of the situation - one of the permanent members of the Security Council is Russia, that is, the country that started and continues an unprovoked war of conquest against Ukraine.

"To whom should we appeal for peace and who should we really press to achieve it?" he said. One of the permanent members of the Council is doing everything it can to prolong Europe's biggest war since World War II. And Russia is doing it with impunity, using its own veto right," the Ukrainian president said.

Why Ukraine is turning to China

"China is also represented here in the Security Council. It is a strong state on which Russia is now completely dependent. If China wants this war to end, it can oblige Russia to do so, because without China, Putin is nothing. But China remains silent instead of acting in favor of peace," Volodymyr Zelensky said.

The Ukrainian president added that there are other "strong states" in the UN Security Council whose goal is to end the war.

"We also see representatives of the United States. This is also another strong state that supports our struggle. We agree to all the proposals of the United States. And we offered Russia, but Russia refused everything, even a ceasefire," he said.

What else the Ukrainian president said

Separately, Vladimir Zelensky said that Russia's dictator Vladimir Putin is afraid of negotiations and only appears abroad to "buy time for assassinations."

"The Russian representative here at the Security Council is also present. But it is certainly not the one who makes real decisions. The one is afraid to sit down face to face with Ukraine and the world and openly admit that he only wants war," the Ukrainian leader explained.
