Tusk: Poland Will Shoot Down Objects That Violate Airspace

Warsaw intends to respond strongly to provocations.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Monday, September 22, that his country will resolutely defend its airspace if flying objects violate it.

His words were quoted by RMF24.

With Russia's increased violation of NATO countries' airspace, Tusk said Poland "will without a doubt take the decision to shoot down flying objects if they violate our territory and fly over Poland."

"There is no room for discussion here," the country's prime minister said.

Tusk emphasized that Poland will always react decisively, but in "not quite clear" situations where incidents occur outside Polish territorial waters, decisions will require special caution.

"When we deal with situations that are not quite clear, such as the recent flight of Russian fighter jets over the Petrobaltic platform, but without a violation because these are not our territorial waters, we must think carefully before deciding on actions that could provoke a very sharp phase of the conflict" Poland acts in constant consultation with its allies and is ready for "any decision aimed at destroying all objects that could threaten us."

"But I have to be 100 percent sure that our allies will treat this in the same way as we do, that if the conflict moves into a very acute phase, we will not be alone in this," Tusk emphasized.
