U.S. President Donald Trump demands that Afghanistan return Bagram Air Base to the United States.

TruthSocial.

"If Afghanistan does not return Bagram Air Base to those who built it - the United States of America - very bad things will happen," U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on Sept. 21.

A day earlier, Trump said the US was in talks with Afghanistan to return the military to Bagram Air Base.

He called the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan the most shameful day in the country's history.

"It should never have been surrendered.... There was no reason to surrender it ... I was the one who reduced the number of soldiers to 5,000, but we were going to keep Bagram, the air base," he told reporters.

Trump first mentioned the possible return of U.S. troops to the Bagram air base on Sept. 18 during a press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

"We were going to leave Afghanistan, but we were going to leave it with strength and dignity. And we were going to keep Bagram, a big airbase, one of the biggest airbases in the world. We gave it to them for nothing," Trump said.

At that, Taliban Foreign Ministry official Zakkir Jalal said the Taliban would not allow the United States to regain control of a key airbase in Afghanistan.
