The head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said that the mechanism had already proved its effectiveness.

Partners have already allocated $2 billion for the PURL initiative to purchase US weapons for Ukraine, Ukrainian Defense Minister Denis Shmygal said after a meeting with NATO Senior Representative to Ukraine Patrick Turner.

"Thanked the countries and the Alliance leadership for helping Ukraine, in particular for launching the PURL mechanism together with the United States. The initiative has already proved its effectiveness - the allies have financed the purchase of US weapons for Ukraine for $2 billion," the official wrote.

The officials discussed long-term support for Ukraine under this program. Shmygal noted that attracting new participants to it and increasing contributions are "critical" for the Defense Forces to receive U.S. weapons.

The officials also considered other ways to ensure priority needs of Ukrainian defense. The head of the Defense Ministry reminded that by the end of 2025 Kiev needs about $6 billion for FPV drones, interceptors, long-range UAVs and missiles.

"I emphasized the importance of supporting Ukrainian manufacturers within the framework of Build in Ukraine and Build with Ukraine programs. We have a strong industrial cooperation with NATO countries and significant prospects for its development," Shmygal said.

In addition, the officials discussed the formation of effective security guarantees with the participation of a "coalition of the willing," and considered steps to ensure a lasting peace and prevent a repeat of Russian aggression.
