Is China changing its stance?
US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Si Jinping had a telephone conversation. They "made progress on the issue of achieving peace between Russia and Ukraine."
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing Trump on the social network Truth Social and the Chinese government's Xinhua news agency.
Trump said he and the Chinese leader had a "very productive call."
"We made progress on many important issues, including trade, fentanyl, the need to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, and the approval of the TikTok deal," the US leader elaborated.
He said he and Xi Jinping agreed to meet at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders' summit in South Korea.
The leaders also agreed that Trump will visit China early next year and Xi Jinping will come to the US at "an appropriate time."
"The call went very well, we will talk on the phone again, appreciate the approval of the TikTok deal and both look forward to meeting at APEC," the US leader concluded.
What Chinese media
According to Xinhua, Trump and Xi Jinping had a frank and in-depth discussion on current Sino-US relations and issues of mutual interest, and outlined strategic guidelines for the development of relations.
Si Jinping recalled that China and the US were allies during World War II. He said relations between the two countries are extremely important.
The Chinese leader emphasized that the two nations can contribute to each other's success and joint prosperity, benefiting their peoples and the world. To achieve this goal, he said, the two sides should go along with each other.
Also, Xi Jinping advised the US to avoid "unilateral trade restrictions" so as not to undermine the results of the talks. He mentioned the TikTok issue and emphasized that the Chinese government respects the companies' decision and supports their negotiations under market rules.
The Chinese leader expressed hope that the US will create an open, fair and equal investment environment for Chinese companies.
It is noteworthy that Xinhua news agency did not even mention the discussion between Trump and Xi Jinping on ending Russia's war against Ukraine.
