The country is taking these measures along with the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and Japan.

Australia has decided to lower the ceiling price for Russian oil from $60 to $47.60 per barrel. Also, the country's government imposed sanctions against another 95 vessels of the Russian "shadow fleet".

According to the website of the government and the Australian Foreign Ministry.

"The measures to reduce the ceiling price of oil from $60 per barrel to $47.60 will reduce the market value of Russian crude oil and help deprive the Russian military economy of oil revenues," the ministry wrote.

The country is reportedly taking the measures along with the European Union, Britain, Canada, New Zealand and Japan. It also maintains a complete ban on imports of oil and oil products from Russia.

In addition, Australia is imposing targeted sanctions against another 95 vessels in Russia's "shadow fleet." In total, the country's government has already legalized restrictions against more than 150 vessels from June 2025.

Ukraine has already reacted to such a decision by Australia. Foreign Minister Andrey Sibiga thanked the country's government and his counterpart Penny Wong for their strong support for Ukraine and respect for international law.

"Australia is helping to limit Russia's ability to finance its war and undermine global peace. We value our strong partnership with Australia and continue to stand together for shared values," the foreign minister said on social media X.
