The plant's operations have been halted.
On the night of September 18, 2025, units of the Special Operations Forces of Ukraine struck the Volgograd oil refinery in Russia. The refinery's operation has been halted.
This was reported by Telegram channel of the SDF.
This refinery is the largest producer of fuels and lubricants in the Southern Federal District of the Russian Federation, annually processing 15.7 million tons of oil, which is 5.6% of all Russian refining.
There was preliminary information that after the attack, heavy fires were recorded on the territory of the refinery, which led to its shutdown.
This refinery provides fuel to the Russian army, particularly for logistics and combat operations.
The strike was another stage in a series of Ukrainian actions aimed at stopping the supply of resources to the Russian army. Earlier, similar strikes were launched against dozens of refineries and oil pipelines in Russia.
This is not the first attack on the Volgograd refinery. Earlier, on August 14 and August 19, 2025, Ukrainian drones had already hit the facility, causing large-scale fires and shutting down the refinery.
The strikes on the refinery knocked out facilities that accounted for at least 17 percent of Russia's oil refining capacity, or 1.1 million barrels per day.
It is also known that on September 18, drones successfully attacked Gazprom's petrochemical complex in the city of Salavat, which is located about 1,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
