Russian air defense has been deprived of "vision".
A Ukrainian drone attacked the Sopka-2 radar complex in Russia's Voronezh region, which is an important military facility of the Russian army. This was reported by Telegram channel ASTRA.
According to ASTRA, the Sopka-2 radar complex in Voronezh region was hit in the evening of September 16. The attack damaged an antenna, putting the complex out of service.
Russian authorities have not confirmed this information, although they have acknowledged that drones struck facilities in the Voronezh region on September 16. The region's governor Pavel Gusev said the UAV was allegedly destroyed.
Tactical and technical characteristics of the Sopka-2
The Sopka-2 is a trace radar system that is actively used by the Russian army in the war against Ukraine. It is designed to control airspace. It is quite a modern military complex, as it has been produced since 2011.
The Russian Army does not have very many Sopka-2 complexes in service. For example, in 2014 Russia produced only 16 such TRLKs, and in previous years - much less.
So, the destruction of even one Sopka-2 complex is a big loss for the occupying Russian army.
