He frequently visits Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories.
The former chief operating officer of the financial company Wirecard, billionaire fraudster Jan Marsalek, who fled to Russia via Belarus five years ago, lives in Moscow, cooperates with the Russian FSB and regularly visits Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories. This is stated in a joint investigation by The Insider and Der Spiegel, published on Tuesday, September 16.
The journalists note that Marsalek, being one of the most wanted criminals in the world, walks around the center of Moscow, "almost without hiding." In one published photo, the former Wirecard board member is said to be walking with Tatiana Spiridonova, a 41-year-old Russian FSB officer. Marsalek has been in a relationship with her since at least 2021, it further points out.
"Spiridonova was privy to and even participated in many of Marsalek's operations. For example, in June 2022, Marsalek spied on a group of Austrian politicians and law enforcement officials using a spy network he created in Vienna," the journalists report.
Marsalek participated in "combat missions" in Ukraine
After fleeing to Russia, Marsalek began to regularly appear in the occupied territories of Ukraine - not only in Crimea, but also in close proximity to the war zone, the journalists report. The Insider's source in the Russian security services claims that Marsalek "took part in combat missions," without specifying which ones.
