An Ancient City Found At The Bottom Of A Belarusian Lake

Archaeologists are keeping its location a secret.

Archaeologists and divers have made an unexpected discovery at the bottom of one of the Belarusian lakes, reported the State TV channel.

A few artifacts found here earlier prompted the researchers to decide to explore the area. The result exceeded expectations: underwater they found the remains of an ancient city.

According to experts, at the bottom clearly visible traces of buildings built in a circle. The diameter of the settlement is estimated at 50-55 meters.

Above the discovery - only 4-5 meters of water, the depth of the lake is small. However, due to the turbidity, visibility is almost zero, so the main research is conducted with the help of echo sounder.

Officers of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus have already raised about 50 finds. Among them are silver temple rings at least 800 years old and other jewelry of the X century. They also found fragments of Iron Age pottery, which indicates that the settlement existed here long before our era.

Scientists have not yet disclosed the exact location of the discovery to protect it from black diggers.
