The President of the United States admitted this to his cronies.
US President Donald Trump has begun to express doubts about his ability to influence Kremlin master Vladimir Putin about ending Russia's war against Ukraine.
This is reported by Axios.
Despite his promises to end the war in Ukraine, Trump recently seems to have doubted his ability to influence Putin, the portal notes.
He has admitted to his cronies that he misjudged Putin's desire for peace, a source with direct knowledge told Axios.
A month ago, Trump said Putin would face serious consequences if he did not agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine or take serious steps toward peace.
But Putin has not agreed to a ceasefire or even a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. Despite this, Trump did not impose new sanctions against Russia.
Instead, the U.S. administration shifted responsibility for pressuring Putin to Europe, and began demanding that the EU impose additional sanctions against Russia and China.
